Hepatitis A Information

Outbreaks of Hepatitis A disease are currently ongoing in two California counties (San Diego County and Santa Cruz County). There has been no known local transmission of cases with the same strain of Hepatitis A virus with in Sacramento County this year.

Populations at-risk of infection include:

  • Homeless
  • Injection and non-injection illicit drug users
  • Healthcare and other service workers (i.e. staff at homeless shelters and jails)
  • Sanitation workers
  • Food handlers

Symptoms of Hepatitis A include fever, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), stomach pain, vomiting, dark urine, pale stools, and diarrhea.

You can prevent the spread of Hepatitis A. Get the Hepatitis A Vaccine. Wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom or before preparing food. Never share towels, toothbrushes, utensils, or other personal hygiene items.
